MEP: High Five for Health Service Initiative

The Service Initiative
Realizing the need and interest in supporting the MEP through hands on service, a new service initiative will be created on a two-year basis. All of the hands on service provided to children by Key Club International members can be directed to a single area of need to make a substantial impact. This service initiative directs and focuses the attention of Key Club members to serve children in a specific hands-on approach.
Key Club members currently will focus their time and talents on High Five For Health, specifically educating children about nutrition, wellness, and play. This program not only creates endless possibilities to strengthen the common goal of service, but also allows each Key Club member to develop into a well-rounded individual community leader and lifelong advocate for children’s health.

and parents all over the country, just like you and me! It
focuses on education children and parents about nutrition,
wellness, and play.

Go to your local Elementary school or Middle School and
have contests to see who can finish 2 glasses of
water the fastests. The winner recieves a gift basket full
of
WHAT
should I look out for?
The MEP CD will be hitting schools around Mid-September.
Ask and see if your school has received one and if not,
make sure you inform your Lieutenant Governor so they can
get you a copy!
Once you have received this CD, explore it! New ideas will
pop up and coloring pages will be found to give to children
in your community to educate them on the importance of
eating right! There's even an eating log so they can record
what they eat and get their parents in on it!
Idea:
Show middle school-ers and elementary school-ers the NEW
food pyramid!
WHEN will
this continue until?
High 5 For Health is the MEP from 2006-2008. So we'll be
educating the children and parents across the world for 2
whole years!
Idea:
Have a jump rope contest and see who can do the most jumps
in a whole minute!
Where
can I start?
You can start by finding out more information on what your
local key club is doing for the MEP. Then find your local
elementary schools, middle schools, day cares, preschools
or any other areas that target entertaining children!
Idea:
Hold a community awareness program and set up flyers around
your local bulletins to publicize the event! Get your
entire Key club involved. Host different kinds of
activities to get kids pumped up and motivated to stay
healthy. The more people, the more you're changing the
habits of little kids and parents, the more you're
effecting the entire world! And that's the Key Club
way!
Why?
*because obesity is "a wave that could swamp the public
health care system" (says Dr. Brian McCrindle, a public
Childhood Obesity Expert)
*because nearly half of the children in North America and
South America will be overweight by 2010
*because obese children are at greater risk for heart
disease, stroke and diabetes as they age.
*because Key Club can do something about it!
Idea:
JOIN US! Spread the power of education and knowledge all
over your community and make sure the parents and children
of your town realize they should to High 5 for
Health!
